Organizing The Week is easy

1
Choose who you’ll invite
3 to 8 people is a good number. Larger groups work too : you watch the film together and then break into smaller groups for the conversations. Choose people who matter to you amongst your friends, family or colleagues. Remember: Don’t watch The Week alone! It’s meant to be watched and processed with a group of people you know.
2
Pick the 3 dates
Pick 3 dates in a row, or spread them out over the course of one week (The Week, you get it). Or pick lunch dates if you do it with colleagues. Binge watching is not allowed. It’s good to sit with the experience for at least 24 hours.
3
Sign up for your session
It’s free if you do it at home or in your school or other community groups (donations welcome). There is a small fee if you use it in the workplace, to help us cover our costs.
4
Send out the invitation
When you sign up, we’ll send you an email with everything you need (including a sample invitation message you might find useful).
When you get together, all you need to do is follow the steps we share with you to start the film, and then to set up the group conversation after the film. So your role is really just to get people together. We’ve made all the rest really simple.

In person... or online

You can get everyone in the same room and do The Week in person.
Get some drinks or snacks, set up a screen that everyone can see (your computer screen, or a TV screen or projector hooked up to your computer) and you are good to go.
You can also do The Week online. You just need a free Zoom account to meet with your group.
For the rest, we’ll share a webpage that will lead you all through the experience, step-by-step. No preparation required.

What to expect?

A 60 minute film episode
The three times you get together, you watch one episode of a 3-part documentary film that we carefully scripted and shot to lead you through a powerful experience…
30 minute group conversation
… and then we invite you to have a conversation about it. We help you kick it off with a question and some guidelines. The conversations are the heart of the experience, it’s where it all comes together.

Three sessions, in our busy lives?

Yes! It's more than a football game. Much less than a season of Games of Thrones.
It’s a powerful, pretty unique experience, that will make you ready to face what is shaping up to be the defining challenge of our times.
Here is what to expect during the 3 episodes.
Episode #1
THE DESCENT
We’ll invite you to calculate:  how old will you be in 2050?  How old will some of the children that  you care about be?  And then we’ll share what scientists tell us life is likely to be like in 2050, if we don’t turn this around.
This episode is the hard one. We found that it’s  precisely because it’s hard that it leads to beautiful, profound conversations after the film. Because we get real. And talk about things that really matter to all of us.
Episode #2
THE RECKONING
This episode is an honest conversation about hope. We’ll avoid the superficial hope that comes from jumping to solutions (Renewable energy! Electric cars!) to get a deeper understanding of how we might turn this around.
In doing so, we’ll also reconsider the old idea that to "save the planet" we need to sacrifice. What if that's not true? What if saving the planet could make everything that truly matters in our our daily life much better?
Episode #3
THE ADVENTURE
Whether we like it or not, how humanity deals with the rapidly changing climate will be the defining adventure of the next 30 years. Every few generations get thrown a big challenge. This is ours.
In this episode, we’ll explore: What could I do? What would I want to do? There are no "shoulds" in this story. This is all about finding our own, unique contribution, if we decide to play a part. We’ll hear from a number of people who share what they decided to do, and how joining this adventure made their life richer and more interesting.

What’s my role as organizer?

Mostly, it’s just getting the group together!

  • If you meet in person, you'll need a screen that everyone can see (your computer, or a TV/projector hooked up to your computer).
  • If you meet online, you’ll need a (free) Zoom account.

Everything else we’ll explain in a short email that we send you when you sign up for a session.

You don’t need to set up or facilitate the group conversations after the films. We’ll do that for you. After each film, you’ll watch another short video that lays out:

  • A few simple guidelines for the conversation (e.g. everyone speaks in turn)
  • A question to kick-start the conversation.
